ORGANIC COTTON

The soft lustrous material made for your health and comfort is produced through hard labor and extra care. The soil on which the plantation of crops takes place needs to be pesticide free for at least three years lest the harmful effects of these poisonous substances creep into the cotton. After the plantation the weeds are controlled by cultivating a diversity of natural enemies that prey on insect pests, and lure pests away from cotton by planting trap crops and not by spraying the plants with harmful chemicals. Insect pests are effectively kept in balance with well-timed introduction of beneficial insects to fields. For harvesting of the cotton which is treated by pesticides, the cotton plants must be killed or defoliated to pick a quality crop before the onset of winter rains but organic growers shut off water early, and apply certified materials to promote cotton boll opening and leaf dropping, readying the crop for harvest.

 PEACE SILK

Silk has long been regarded the chosen fabric to represent prosperity, culture and tradition. Wars were fought to obtain this fabric; it was also one of the principle trade commodity of the EAST INDIA COMPANY. But the production of the fabric is overlooked by most of us. It is comparable to the fur industry. In the production of the ordinary silk only few adult pupae are allowed to emerge to ensure reproduction rest of the pupae within cocoons are killed by steam or fumigation to prevent adult emergence, which would cut and tangle the silk filaments. But in making of peace silk, the cocoons are left alone for seven to 10 days. Once the worms mature, they are allowed to pierce the cocoons and fly away as moths. Only then does the manufacture of silk begin. Each cocoon is checked individually to ensure that the moth has escaped before the silk thread is spun. The result, although not as lustrous as regular silk, is a much softer fabric. Peace silk is also often known as vegetarian silk.
